    President's Message

    Happy Fall All!

    We are back in full force following the summer months and have some exciting learning events coming your way! Don’t forget we submit for HRCI and SHRM recertification credits, so it is a great opportunity to attend and earn those credits. We want to plan one more membership event for the 2023 year and would love to hear where you think we should host it.     As we near 4th quarter let us remember to give ourselves some grace. We are entering what seems to be the busiest time of year for Human Resources and we still have one last stretch to get to year end. If you celebrate the holidays, or don’t, remember to relax and unplug when and where you can. You can only work as hard as you are energized to. As HR professionals we deal with burnt out employees and we certainly want to keep that statistic low as well as not become a part of that statistic.

    Some great quick pick-me-up options during Q4 can mean taking your 1:1 to a nearby coffee shop, change up the scenery a bit. Take a quick 10 minute break, walk outside and leave your phone on your desk. Drink that water! Cancel a meeting if you think an email can answer someone’s question. Dedicate an hour a week for people to not set meetings on your calendar and use that hour to work on that project you keep putting off. Schedule a happy hour with your close business friends. Send a Kudos to a work colleague. There are many ways in which you can have small pick-me-ups at work and don’t be afraid to explore them.

By promoting empathy and belonging, you strengthen the organization. “Embedding DEIB Throughout The Employee Life Cycle” - Uncover what data points are most important in measuring progress for your DEIB efforts across the candidate and employee lifecycle.

    Using Emotional Intelligence In Leadership

    Leah Valverde, Manager of Learning and Talent Development at CWU – Learn your default interaction style and how to flex to bring out the best in yourself and others. An interaction style is a predictable pattern of behaviors that might be considered one’s usual way of being. While we are all a mix of all four styles, recognizing the default styles of yourself and others helps us flex our style to communicate more effectively with our colleagues, supervisors, direct reports, and teams.
