AVHRA’s 2023 Holiday Newsletter
President's Message
Hello AVHRA Members!
Your 2024 President Veronica Gomez-Vilchis and 2023 President Emily Vincent just spent a few days away in Washington D.C. attending the Volunteer Leader Business Meeting (VLBM). Here we were able to visit the U.S. Capital Visitor’s Center to sit in on discussions relating to workplace policy and not politics. For those of you who do not know what VLBM is, it is a three day long “meeting” where we hear from SHRM’s leadership as well as keynote speakers who are there to teach us how to better serve our local chapter members as well as exchange ideas with other chapters from across the nation ranging in size from small to SUPERMEGA. We are very refreshed and energized to bring you the best 2024 AVHRA year yet.
As a reminder, we have our Annual Employment Law Summit on Friday, December 8th at the Confluence Technology Center. You can also attend the session via Zoom. Make sure to register as soon as possible as spaces are limited to 150 in person attendees. As always, HRCI and SHRM recertification credits will be available. This year we will hold raffles instead of a silent auction. These raffles include wine, two SHRM memberships, as well as a 50/50! Yes, we said it, a 50/50! Not only does $5 from your purchased ticket go directly to the SHRM Foundation, a portion of the raffle ticket purchases will be returned to the 50/50 winner as well as support the SHRM Foundation. What is the SHRM Foundation? Let me tell you! The SHRM Foundation, the philanthropic affiliate of SHRM, empowers HR professionals to build a world of work that works for all. Because of support received from generous donors—including SHRM state councils and chapters— the SHRM Foundation will continue to elevate and empower HR as a social force through our inclusion initiatives to leverage untapped talent, our commitment to skilling and reskilling the workforce, awarding more than 300 scholarships, and leading transformational change in support of workplace mental health and wellness.
CALL FOR SPEAKERS:
During our Employment Law Summit on December 8th, we will be having a panel discussion around “Generations in the Workplace”. We are looking for 4 – 5 panelists across generations to volunteer to answer questions (you will see the questions beforehand) in order to make this happen! If you are interested in becoming a panelist, please contact Emily Vincent (emily.vincent@mercer.com) and Colleen Malmassari (cmalmassari@larsongross.com) by end of day Tuesday, November 28th.
AVHRA wishes you a safe, healthy, and wonderful holiday season! Whether you celebrate the holiday season or not, remember to sit back and reflect upon what the year has brought you and what you have accomplished no matter how big or small. Set your new goals and intentions for the upcoming year and always give yourself a grace. We are not perfect, and we too will make it through this busy holiday and work season.
We look forward to seeing you at the 2023 Employment Law Summit!
Emily Vincent
