President's Message
Another gorgeous central Washington summer! I hope you enjoyed the sunshine and all our beautiful region has to offer. With only a few months left in the year, I find myself reflecting on our 2018 AVHRA Board and how we have all worked so diligently, as an impressive team, in fostering our common goal of enhancing membership experiences and fostering chapter growth. I am truly blessed to be working with such an amazing group of professionals!
2019 AVHRA Board – Call for Volunteers and Nominations
We have Board members that, after many years of dedication (beyond the typical one to two years), are hoping for a much deserved transition from enjoying the fulfillment Board participation brings to enjoying the benefits of their hard work as an active AVHRA member.
Now is the time to join the Board and become a part of the wonderful and exciting work we are doing to bring our Apple Valley Chapter to a new level of awesome. I am accepting volunteers and nominations for our 2019 Board. There are many great benefits of volunteering in chapter leadership. For example, YOU will…
- Make an impact on the HR profession through leadership and continued chapter development
- Be recognized as a leader in the human resources field
- Improve your competencies and advance yourself professionally
- Network with peers and colleagues in the HR profession and in our community
- Attend all chapter meetings and workshops for FREE – this is a tremendous value to you personally and professionally (and a great selling point to your employer)
- Earn HRCI/SHRM CP-SCP credits for your leadership
As a Board member of AVHRA, our positive energy makes it easy to be an engaged member – this includes representing the Board at all AVHRA events and ten (10) monthly board meetings.
We need your help for continued success. Please contact me at kpage@wenatcheewa.gov if you are interested or have questions. All positions are open for nominations.
Upcoming AVHRA Events
Please check our website Event Page to RSVP for upcoming events in Wenatchee. Mark your calendars for our October 25th Lunch & Learn on a trending hot topic ‘Competing for Top Talent’ and November 7th football-themed ‘HR Tailgate BBQ’ Membership Networking Event titled ‘Getting Ready for the Big Game.’ And don’t forget our annual Law Summit scheduled for December 12th which will include a high interest segment on the new Family Medical Leave. We are also working on bringing an event to our Kittitas County members next month. And we are already planning for 2019. The infamous Michael Nash will be back with his four-day ‘Excellence in Management’ training series which has been incredibly popular with employers and leadership teams throughout Washington State. Please check our Event Page for updates.
Professional Development
Our AVHRA Certification Study Group starts this month. Meetings will be held weekly on Monday’s from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and will move to two nights a week in November. AVHRA has an opportunity to offer the SHRM Learning System at a discounted rate of $495 if we have five people who want to purchase it. Two members passed their certification tests this year after participation in the 2017 AVHRA study group. New in 2019… AVHRA designated members who pass the certification test for the 1st time will receive reimbursement of up to $200 toward the testing fee if not covered by the member’s employer. For more information, please contact Lisa Lee at lmlee@bluestargrowers.com.
AVHRA Designation
Please double check to make sure you have designated AVHRA as your home chapter. When you designate us as your home chapter, SHRM provides financial support to assist us in being able to provide you with the programs and certification credits you want.
I look forward to seeing you at upcoming AVHRA events.
Sincerely,
Kari Page, SHRM-SCP, SPHR
