Session Description:
Even if you have a good interview process and the support of an experienced recruiter, interviews can go sideways. And I have 134 stories to prove it!
Over the years I’ve created interview processes, conducted interviews, and been interviewed. And, I have listened to friends, colleagues and clients complain, lament and laugh about interviews. In 2012 I began researching what can go wrong during interviews by collecting real life stories from professionals, both managers and non-managers, interviewers and interviewees. Currently I have 134 interview stories from organizations that vary by type, size, and industry. I have grouped these stories into fifteen topics that highlight critical interview issues.
Storytelling adds another dimension to what can be learned from reading or talking in the abstract about the interview process. In a time when we are drowning in information, stories cut through the noise and quickly bring us to the core experience.
In this interactive session, I will:
- Share some of the stories I’ve collected
- Link the stories to “lessons learned the easy way – from someone else’s experience”
- Suggest ways to use storytelling to improve the interview process
- Give participants an opportunity to share their own stories
